Bears in Ill-Fitting Hats

So just like Carder and Emily (and also Andrew, who doesn't have a sketch blog yet), I decided to draw some Bears in Ill-Fitting Hats, to go along with the Flickr Group for it: http://flickr.com/groups/bears-in-ill-fitting-hats

These guys were just warm-ups. Not as happy with them as the rest, and apparently, they don't look very happy, either!

The bear wearing the yarmulke was the pick of the evening. The construction worker guy was also cool, except i am sure the hat is incorrect.

That is all for now. It was certainly a fun little project!

It's been far too long since I've posted anything. But, here's a couple of things (and truth be told, they're actually from last week)!!

Yeahh...again the me drawings. Because I looooove scarf weather. I also hadn't gotten much sleep the night before I drew either of these, haha. Sometimes the less sleep I get, the crazier or better my drawings get.

A couple random girls. They're actually both based on drawings I did in high school. The first is just another attempt at that pose (which I pulled off better, thankfully), and the second is a drawing I did in high school. I don't like it enough to go further than the sketch stage, though.

Kitty hat boy! I don't know what it is about me drawing boys in animal hats. The original drawing is actually that awesome blue color, because I used some cool pencils at Nickelodeon.

And look, it's also in COLOR!

Sadly I don't know what to do to finish this. I kind of like the un-shaded look, but I have no idea what to do for a background (well...I guess sky). I was considering using it as a new layout for my website, which hasn't been updated in months, but I don't know how that will turn out.

That is all for now. Gahh, finals week :(. Back to animating!

Here's a few things.

First another Zomibe Boyscout. The movie "Fido" made me so happy that it had Zombie Cadets (like boyscouts) who TURNED INTO ZOMBIES. Yessss. I wish I had pictures of their uniforms, I drew that kid without reference. I'm not very good at weird angles, either.

And now...my character, Dylan. He likes to wear ties :B. And I don't know why he looks so angry, he's more uncaring than angry, in general.

I am currently writing a screenplay about Dylan (as those who are in class with me know), but I like drawing him more than writing about him :(. I drew him way too much last week. And the ones of him with scarves were unsuccessful attempts to try and draw something I could use as a new layout for my website. It's been "under construction" for way too long just because I haven't made a new layout for it.

Also, another character I've actually used in a short animation before, Pete, the Evil Panda-Hat Boy. His face is a bit similar to Dylan's, but they have very different colored hair and skin and clothes.

I guess that's all. I should be doing homework right now. Bohhhhh.

AUGH ANIMATION

Wow so I'm WAY almost done with my one film now! Just a few more scenes to color, and some backgrounds, and BOOM I'll be done. The sound is going to be done this week, too. I'm quite excited.
...then I have tons of work to do on my thesis, and I'll ONLY be focusing on that, for once.

I don't actually have a sketch, but just something amusing I wanted to show. Because the character in my animation drives a sort of Cadillac-ish car, and the the song "Cadillac" by Mest has amused me since high school (it's the only Mest song I still have on my comptuer, haha), I combined the two for the hell of it.

Cadillac from Lauren Blakely on Vimeo.
Maybe it's not funny to anyone but me, but I'm glad I can at least amuse myself.

Hopefully I'll have something to post by the end of the week. But if not, it's because I'm finishing up the animation.

Heck Yes!

I am so close to being done with one of my animations for school! I didn't think I had time to draw this week, but inspiration hit me on Thursday. Most of this is from that day.

Uhh random stuff. But the first one is my character, Dylan, who I'm writing a screenplay about. He's a poet, and he likes to wear ties :B.

Some drawings I'll be putting in the ending credits for the film I'm almost done with, and also a title design. I'll probably do some minial color stuff. And I went with Goat Rage (like Road Rage) because I'm not that clever with titles, and it's the best thing I could think of.

Finally....SELF-PORTRAITS! Sometimes I like drawing myself in weird and ugly ways. I am wondering if I should use one of these as a new Blogger profile picture.

Oh and as for explanation...the thumbs up one is because I've noticed I do that a lot these days (with BOTH hands), and call my male friends "sir". The door one is because Andrew made me think someone was knocking but he was just tapping his GOSH-DARN PEN!! The cupcakes one is because I got a free cupcake at Nickelodeon on Thursday, and the one on the bottom is...my life. I live in an animation dungeon.

Now it's SLEEP TIME!

It appears as though I will only really update this at the end of the week. And I've found that my only time for free sketching is either during downtime at my internship, or during a class if I'm feeling REALLY daring/rebelious/badass.

...okay, the latter does not really make me any of those things, but I SHOULD be a good student and pay attention to my lovely professors, right? Right.

I don't have much to show this week, sadly.

A few girls, and some random stuff.

Also, sometimes when I don't know what to draw, I draw bald people (mostly because I'm too lazy to think of hair and clothes) in weird poses to practice poses. Because I'm not very good at exciting ones.

Well sorry this was not very much, nor was it very exciting. Maybe next week I'll have more? Who knows!

First real post, woohoo!

I've been forcing myself to draw in pen lately. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. So first, I have a collection of things I've been drawing in straight pen. They're from multiple pages. I quite fancy the fellow in the top hat, the kid in the cat hat, and..well, hell, I just like the people who have hats on. And the ugly obese gargoyle thing.

Next, I have a few random characters. I've been having trouble with girls lately.

And for the grand finale.... ZOMBIES!!! I have been drawing zombie boyscouts all weekend. It all stemmed from a makeshift costume I did for myself on Saturday, which consisted of zombie face makeup and a boyscout uniform (well, shirt and pants). Then I just decided to take the idea and run with it. I may even write an extra credit screenplay for class on Wednesday!

I totally enjoy the idea of a brain-eating merit badge.

Aww poor Tommy was so normal.

Some random infected scouts.

By the way, if anybody from class wants me to zombify them on Wednesday, I'll have my makeup with me :).

That's all. It's high time I got some real sleep.

Welcome welcome!

I decided to start just a plain sketch blog to show off some of the drawings I've been doing outside of class.

I'll make a huge post of the stuff from my sketchbook I've done from the past week or so. After that, I'll update it whenever I can.

And why the name "Seductive Herring"? Well...I'll tell you a story.

It all started back in high school. I have a bad habit of hearing things incorrectly, or "selectively". At one point, a friend of mine was singing the words "selective hearing" in a song-song sort of manner. However, I, unfortunately, heard her say "seductive herring". From then on, whenever I heard something incorrectly, I called it a case of seductive herring! I'd always wanted to use the name for something, but I didn't know what. And hey, now I have the perfect opportunity!

So there you go. Hope you enjoy my stuff when I post it!
